WSJ: Wikipedia losing contributors
By Andréa Maria Cecil
11/23/2009 - 12:00:45 PM

Millions are leaving Wikipedia.org.

So says an article on The Wall Street Journal's Web site.

The reasons?

Well, some topics already have been written about, according to the Journal. And then there are the rules.

"Wikipedia is becoming a more hostile environment," researcher Felipe Ortega told the Journal. Ortega is a project manager at Libresoft, a research group at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid. "Many people are getting burnt out when they have to debate about the contents of certain articles again and again."

At least one Central Pennsylvania company is in the midst of a Wikipedia battle. Check out this Friday's print edition for more on that.

What's your experience been?

With all the ruckus Rupert Murdoch's been raising lately about paid content, it doesn't surprise me that a story like this would come from the WSJ. I could comment further but I'm not a subscriber so I can't read it. Nor will I ever be :-)
